An extract from Girl from the Kip.

Letting her guard down, Mollie smiled and said,  'You have feelings for me?'
'I like you, but only because you are spontaneous and brave, and I find that exciting. I've never met anyone like you, but do not mistake that for love. I love Pearl.'
Angrily, she screamed, ' You're an arrogant Pig! Who the hell do you think you are?' then she softened her stance and whispered, 'Is Pearl brave and spontaneous?'
'Pearl is a lady Mollie.'
Molly felt as though she'd been kicked in the stomach.
'And what am I?'

'You don't need me to clarify exactly what you are Mollie, do you? There's no need to get emotional over this.'
'It's too late for that, come on, tell me what I am.'
'Alright, but remember you asked. You are an orphan, so it goes without saying, that your parentage is dubious. You live and work in a lodging house which is frequented by the lowest members of society, and your language on occasions, is much to be desired. Shall I continue?'

'Oh, please do,' she said sarcastically, looking him  in the eye, determined to remain steadfast.
