WATCH THIS SPACE

I was going to unpublish two of  my Historical novels tonight, but I cannot bring myself to do it. They were my first novels, and I've worked too hard on them to let them float into the abyss.

I am going to keep them on, and once they have been republished on Amazon, and they have been  accepted, I will be giving them away for free for a short while, even though I said they would never be free.

Thankfully, that statement didn't produce any more sales, so nobody was affected by it, otherwise I would have taken them down. So I can do this in good conscience.

The Reluctant Father by [Williams, Susan]

As promised, an extract from my contemporary novel

Josh and Graham sat opposite each other in the canteen, silently sipping their tea.
What now?’ Josh asked, as kindly as he could.
Graham shook his head, shrugged his shoulders and said feebly, ‘I don’t know.’
‘Then you better start knowing because you’ve got a child in there and Sarah’s going to need you. You need to get your priorities right!’
‘She told you to say that did she?’
‘You know she didn’t, because she wouldn’t do that to you, and you know that too, don’t you? You don’t deserve her or the baby. They’re too good for you,’ Josh said angrily, wanting to hit Graham and forcing himself not to.
A burning anger was rising inside of Graham as he analysed every word Josh said, and then he gave way to his temper when he heard Josh mumble, ’Coward.’

Graham pushed his chair from under him, hurled himself across the table and grabbed Josh by the throat. Josh’s chair fell backwards and they both ended up in a heap on the floor. Graham went to hit Josh in the face, but instinctively, Josh held his hands up and pushed Graham to the side. Graham’s fist hit the floor hard and when something cracked in his hand he yelled out in pain.

‘Stop!’ the doctor yelled down the corridor as two security guards pulled them apart.
The doctor looked at Josh and said angrily, ‘Get back to your friend - and you!’ pointing an accusing finger at Graham, ‘Find somebody to look at that hand.’
Josh and Graham did as they were told.
‘Idiot!’ Josh said, as he pushed past Graham. Graham snarled at him and replied,’ Moron!’

Voice of The Author

Feeling a little deflated.

Before I write, I know my characters, the setting and the basic plot, which is all good. Then, I let my characters take me in various directions.

However, today, my character took me on a journey I'm not sure I like.

So much so, that because of this character's actions, for the first time ever, I may have to consider this to be an x rated book.

One of the scenes is quite harrowing and I wouldn't want a child to read it.

I can't change it, because it is an integral part of the book, and I fear, that there may be similar scenes later.

What a Dilemma!

As promised, and extract form my latest novel,

'The Reluctant Father'

‘Do you love him?’
The fight had gone from him now, there was nothing more she could say to hurt him… unless she answered yes.
Sarah looked over at him and said irritably, ‘I don’t know.’
She felt a little better now that he had put some distance between them, and although she knew that it was the jealousy talking, she didn’t like this side of him.
‘I fell in love once. Love isn’t all it’s cracked up to be,’ she said, giving Graham an accusing look.
He knew that she was referring to him, but he didn’t bite back. He dare not.
‘Some people don’t realise what they’ve got until its gone,’ he said in his defence.

‘What do you want from me Graham?’
If he had something to say then he should say it and say it quickly, because she really wanted him to leave. She needed to feel safe again and she wouldn’t be able to feel secure until he had left the house and she had bolted the door behind him. Not because she thought he would hit her, but because she was afraid of her own feelings.
‘You!’ he whispered.
Sarah had been wanting to hear those words for a long time, but now that she had, his words felt hollow.
‘And you still love me don’t you Graham?’ she said sarcastically.

She had been in this position before and he had let her down, so what was stopping him from letting her down again. Graham smiled, hoping that she would see the sincerity in his face, but she remained calm, almost indifferent.
‘I’m serious… I love you.’ Graham said, frustrated by her coldness.
‘You’ve got a nerve. First you attack me for no reason and then you say you love me. Seriously Graham, you need help!’
‘Why don’t we start over?’ he said, wishing he’d thought of the idea sooner.
Sarah looked at him and frowned.
‘Start over?’

‘I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before. Why don’t we start dating again and see where it goes from there?’
There was an uneasy silence while Sarah tried to digest what he was saying. Then she said seriously, ‘What about Jack, I don’t want him to get used to seeing us together and then we finish, that wouldn’t be fair on him.’
‘I can see Jack as usual and see you some other time, he need never know.’ Surely, she could see the sense in what he was proposing.
‘I’m also seeing Tony what if I don’t want to lose his friendship.’
‘Then carry on seeing him,’ Graham said, as calmly as he could, trying his best not to look concerned.

Sarah couldn’t believe what she was hearing, Graham was being too reasonable, something wasn’t right. She took a long look at him, he was slightly flushed, and his breathing was a little heavy, but apart from that, he looked serious.
‘I don’t know what to say.’
She needed to think things through. Surely, he couldn’t expect her to decide now, not after the way he had treated her.

Graham could see that she was confused and went and sat by her side. Gently he leaned into her, cupped her face in his hands and kissed her. Sarah responded eagerly and Graham pulled her body gently into his. After what seemed like an eternity Graham gently pushed her away, leaving Sarah breathless and wanting more.
‘Isn’t that worth giving it another try?’ he asked.
Sarah could feel the warmth of his breath on her cheek as he spoke, and it sent a chill down her spine. If only her mother and Jack weren’t upstairs, anything could have happened, and truth be told, she wouldn’t have objected if it had.

‘THAT! as you so eloquently put it, was never the issue,’ Sarah said, angry at the conceit of the man.
‘You know you still want me though, don’t you?’ he said light- heartedly.
‘That’s a little unfair Graham.’ Then she laughed and added, ‘You’re corrupting a key witness. You should play fair.’
‘You’ve heard the saying, there’s nothing fair in love and war. I’d play dirty to win you back any day,’ he said smugly, and Sarah couldn’t tell if he was joking or not.

‘I’ll have to think about it,’ she said eventually.

SNIPPETS FROM THE AUTHOR

'The Reluctant Father'

This story is loosely based on somebody I had a crush on, many years ago.

His smouldering 'Poldark' looks had a profound effect on me, and I decided to write a story 'loosely' based around him.

However, as I rarely talked to this person, and never observed him in his natural habitat, I have to point out, that this is a work of fiction.

What's Happening?

My Viking historical novel is coming along slowly. My deadline is September, but we'll see.

Watch out for some great bargains over the next few months as I might be having a clear out to make way for my new eBooks.

I'm so keen, I've already got a Christmas eBook in mind, but that can wait.

Due out in July 2019 is... 'The Reluctant Father'

Due out in August 2019... is my first attempt at a western, yes, a WESTERN. It's a little bit dark in places, and as we speak, I'm wondering if I want to put it on Amazon.  I've had it on my computer for a long time, and I'm still not sure.

DILEMMA

I'm typing in pretty colours, hoping it will make me feel relaxed.

I have numerous books to go on Amazon, but at the same time, I am taking some off, but I have decisions to make, that are driving me crazy.

Nope, pretty colours aren't making the slightest bit of difference; let me try another colour.

Nope, this ones not working either.

Hubby has just given me a cup of Rosy Lee, let's see what that does?

Yummy, a cup of tea and a bit of malt loaf, that's hit the spot.

But still, I have decisions to make and I'm still in  a quandary. I'll sleep on it.

What's Happening?

Still writing my viking novel which is coming along nicely.

Taking of old posts on Twitter and Facebook to keep it relevant. It's looking a little cluttered.

Proofreading ' The Reluctant Father' a contemporary eBook that should be out this month.

Also, proofreading a western I wrote a long time ago, with a view to publishing it in August. Depending on whether the sun is out or not.
